Our Mission

The Philomel Project is a free database of solo and chamber works by women composers, searchable by type, instrumentation, language, and more. Our mission is to eliminate the legwork so musicians (particularly conservatory students) who have no prior knowledge of music by women composers are able to find pieces suited to their needs. We want to hear more music written by women, and our belief is that this will be achieved from the ground up: by normalizing their work in the pedagogical process.
